The Science

The raw materials we use are specifically selected for their nutrient content and digestibility. We then formulate our diets to the bird’s nutritional requirements considering levels of vitamins and minerals, energy, and amino acids. All raw materials are tested before entering our mills, to ensure that Sportsman Game feed is produced to safe and exacting standards.

Sportsman Game Feeds incorporate Phytase and Xylanase enzymes, to help break down the raw materials for the bird enabling them to digest and absorb more of the nutrients in the feeds. By adding Butyrate, a short chain fatty acid that provides energy to gut cells, this is proven to increase gut health which can lead to healthier birds. The Selenium source in our diets was selected for its high bioavailability and is required for general metabolism, antioxidant protection, growth, and reproduction. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that is important for general functioning of the body but is also essential for reproduction and disease immunity. We include Chelated Zinc as it is more easily absorbed by the bird. Zinc is required for feather production, immunity, and reproductive functions. Finally, additional fibre sources can be included to help the hens feel full for longer periods reducing the incidence of feather pecking and cannibalism.
