At ABN, we’re committed to improving the sustainability of UK agriculture through ongoing trials as part of the Innovate UK project. One of our key focuses is finding alternatives to soya in poultry diets by exploring the use of homegrown beans.
Spring 2024
Our Poultry Nutritionists were on-site at Boarcross, working with commercial layers from a producer supplying Chippindales, a major egg supplier to Morrisons. The trial aimed to determine how much beans can be included in poultry diets without affecting performance.
Summer 2024
The flock was 52 weeks into lay, continuing to meet breed targets for egg number and weight. We’ve also completed our first set of commercial broiler trials. These efforts are helping us build a database of nutrient values for beans, shedding light on the natural variation in nutrients and key anti-nutritional factors that need to be addressed for beans to reach their full potential in poultry diets.
