The first Carbon Zero delivery has been achieved at our Walsingham feed mill plant, when a consignment of Wheatfeed pellets arrived via electric road haulage in September.

The delivery was made by electric transport specialist Voltloader, with an electric vehicle completing the 131-mile trip, using just 1.56 kW per mile. The vehicle’s 540kW battery capacity allows for a range of approximately 170-180 miles, and is charged using 100% green energy.

What makes the vehicles particularly innovative is that they are entirely emission-free, even when powering the trailer. Unlike traditional bulk tippers, which rely on a separate diesel engine for tipping, Voltloader’s Power Take Off (PTO) system is also fully electric, further reducing emissions.

Bertie Steggles, Head of Operations at Voltloader, says, "We are delighted to be partnering with AB Agri and providing haulage services to support its sustainability targets.

“Our zero-emission vehicles are perfectly suited to many of the routes that AB Agri businesses undertake, enabling a significant reduction on carbon impacts. We are excited about this partnership and working together more closely over the coming months."

Kristy Vidler-Green, ABN Raw Material Buyer adds, “We are thrilled to have now taken our first carbon-neutral delivery, working alongside Voltloader. This important step aligns with our wider commitments to reducing our own carbon footprints, while continuing to supply safe, high-quality feed to the pig and poultry industries.”

“As part of our partnership approach to building a responsible, productive and sustainable industry, we have been profiling our raw materials to build a database of their carbon emissions. This ultimately enables us to determine our customers’ feed carbon footprint, and to explore options to make reductions, while still supporting their productivity and profitability.

“Working alongside Voltloader, and reducing emissions from our deliveries, can further help towards achieving those targets. We look forward to expanding this electric delivery initiative and strengthening our partnership with Bertie and his team in the months ahead.”
